LFC Takes On GC, BC, and the Big C

It was a day that saw our head coach tiptoe through the sideline mud in pink Crocs, two conference rivals intermingle for a photo before the contest, and the home team wearing uniforms that looked as though they had been dipped in Pepto Bismol prior to the game. "Let's go pink!" was certainly not something I had ever thought I'd be yelling from a sideline...

But all of those things occurred as a part of Lake Forest's Playing For A Cure day, which was a success both on and off the field. Many, many, many fans helped out by purchasing pink shirts of their own and cheering the home team(s) onto victory, despite the morning rain and chilly temps.

We were taking on Grinnell College, typically one of the best teams in the MWC. We'd had a tough, wet, cold week of practice and the coaches weren't sure how the team would come out on Saturday. Our questions were answered when we scored almost immediately. The rest of the first half was really, really fun to watch and we went into halftime up 2-0, having just played our best 45 minutes of soccer yet this year. We ended up with a convincing 4-1 victory and lots of great memories.

Saturday was also our last regular season home game and as such was Senior Day. We will have more on our Seniors later, but they deserve to be recognized briefly here: Jocelyn Maneval, Emily Sadler, and Monica Thomas have given a lot to this program, and this year especially their leadership has been essential. Thank you!

Of course, our weekend work was not finished and we piled on the bus early Sunday morning to take on the Beloit College Buccaneers. We looked sluggish and tired after Saturday but managed to gut this one out and get the 1-0 victory.

Improving our record to 5-2-0 in Conference meant that we solidified our spot in the 2009 Midwest Conference Tournament, to be held somewhere in Eastern WI on Nov 6-7. Will we see you there? Hope so!
